I wish I could say I "ran in my first half-marathon" but that would be a bit of a stretch. I did manage to run... ok jog, approximately 5.5/6 miles of the 13.1 mile course.  I walked the entire second half of the course managing only a few feeble attempts at jogging while my knees screamed reluctantly at me.  It became a mental challenge at that point.  Could I endure long enough to walk victoriously across the finish line?  Would I still manage to complete a half marathon before some others conquered a full marathon course?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;     Well, one big help to getting through the mental and physical challenge was having my ipod along with me.  Not knowing beforehand how poignant U2's "Walk On" would be, I was able to keep my focus off my knees and keep my mind on completing this challenge!  Finishing the race was a bit paradoxical.  I had overcome adversity to complete the challenge mentally but my body was suffering the consequences.   My fitness level was atrocious - inspiring me to want to get back to a higher level of fitness.  Managing an active lifestyle after 40 can be a challenge.
